Baked Grapefruit

I've never been a big fan of grapefruit, but this recipe looked delicious. No matter how many times I look at the pictures, they will continue to look delicious.

Ingredients:
1 Grapefruit
2 tbsp Honey
Cinnamon

Directions:
  • Preheat oven to 375°F
  • Cut grapefruit in half and score the cut side of the fruit (that way the delicious honey seeps down into the innards of the fruit)
  • Drizzle 1 tbsp of honey on each half
  • Sprinkle with cinnamon
  • Bake for 15 minutes (edges should start to brown.

Notes:
Most important note: Grapefruit can adversely interact with certain medications.

I got this recipe from Flip Cookbook

I think something might be wrong with my oven, because this took me closer to 45 minutes, and I couldn't get the top to brown like on the Flip Cookbook page.

The grapefruit is way better warm.

Review:
This was super messy to eat. I tried to eat it with a fork, and juice would explode everywhere. So, I tried to eat it with a spoon. No dice there either.

This was super messy to bake. As you can see by the pictures, I baked them in one of my cast iron pans. Some of the honey ran off while they were baking and caramelized on the bottom of the pan. I had to cook a few sweet things in a row in that pan to ensure that my eggs wouldn't taste like honey or grapefruit next time I made them in that pan. The sweet potatoes pancakes I made in that pan took all the extra flavors off nicely.

It really didn't do much for the bitter after taste of the grapefruit. If you love grapefruit then give this a go!  TC and I are not fans, and this recipe did not convert us. I would be willing to try it again in a different oven (everything takes forever to bake in there) to see if that changes anything. As it stands, TC gave it a 1. I gave it a 2 because I ate an entire half, so it wasn't inedible. I think if we enjoyed grapefruit, it would have gotten a much higher rating.

You might want to try it again but under the broiler this time. Instead of honey you could try brown sugar mixed with butter. That topping will Carmelize.

I did turn the broiler on, and I got nothing. It did not want to brown at all. I'll give it another go in a different oven, I think something may be wrong with this one.
