Abbreviations

There are lots of cooking abbreviations. I'll try to add them as I go. There are also a few that are specific to me. I'll cover those too. Sometimes abbreviations can be really obvious, and other times, they aren't as clear. So, here we go with the basics.

Cooking Abbreviations:

  • tsp = teaspoon
  • tbsp = tablespoon
  • c. = cup
  • lb or lbs = pound or pounds (as in weight)
  • pt = pint
  • qt = quart
  • gal = gallon
  • min = minute or minutes
  • hr = hour
  • F = Fahrenheit
  • oz = ounces
I also recommend everyone get a Measure Magnet for their kitchen. The measure magnet would have most of the information listed below. I use mine all the time. TC likes to use the metric system, but all my recipes have to be converted if he is going to help me. Sometimes it's just easier if he doesn't help me. :)
